What Advanced RPAS actually covers
Transport Canada splits drone operations into Basic and Advanced. Basic operations stay in uncontrolled airspace, at least 30 metres from bystanders, and never over them. Advanced operations are what commercial work in a city needs: controlled airspace, closer to people not involved in the flight, and over built-up areas.
An Advanced certificate takes Transport Canada’s Small Advanced exam, an in-person flight review, and a registered aircraft declared safe for the operation. In practice it’s the difference between being able to shoot your downtown tower, active construction site or occupied retail plaza — and not.
